When individuals suffer from an anxiety disorder, it may lead to avoidance of certain situations, because they fear it may be triggered. This can in turn lead to relationship and / or career problems such as not being able to achieve potential job opportunities, or promotions and being unable to develop personal relationships.  Cognitive Hypnosis may help you overcome your fear.

Frequently Asked Questions About General Anxiety

How Can I Tell the Difference Between Worrying and General Anxiety Disorder?
Most people worry. You may worry about your workload or taking an exam. You may worry about your child’s education or your spouse’s health. For a lot of people, these worries do not impact their life. They find a way resolve their worries by coming up with a doable plan, or talking it through with a supportive other and then putting it into perspective and moving on from it. However, if you have general anxiety your worries appear to be all pervading, giving you no relief and your worries become excessive.
How common is General Anxiety Disorder?
Approximately 3 million people in the UK suffer from anxiety. Women are twice as likely to have general anxiety than men (or maybe they are more likely to “own up” to it and seek help).
If I have general anxiety, will I have it forever?
General anxiety is thought to be an ingrained and habitual disorder. So many people say they have always been very sensitive and have felt over-whelmed and anxious a lot of their life. This is particularly noticeable to them when they feel stressed. However, learning to deal with stress and manage the way you think are the first steps to managing your symptoms and living a relatively calm life.
Can general anxiety have physical symptoms?

People with anxiety often worry they have a serious health problem and may only be diagnosed with anxiety after going to the GP to get help with their physical symptoms. If the doctor advises there are no physical symptoms to cause concern, then you need to get help with the underlying causes.

  • Prolonged stress or trauma
How is General anxiety dealt with?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (see my CBT page) is highly recommended by the medical profession for the Treatment of anxiety. I tend to use CBT and hypnosis together (cognitive hypnotherapy) both to identify negative thinking and find more balanced thoughts and to help you to de-stress with hypnotic relaxation. Mindfulness (living in the here and now) is also recommended by NICE (the National Institute for health and care excellence) for helping reduce anxiety.

Sometimes GP’s prescribe anti-depressants for a short period of time in addition to any other therapies.
