Is it time to try Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Is it time to try Cognitive Hypnotherapy? Many people think that seeing a therapist of any kind is a sign of weakness, or only for those with acute mental illness. But, just like our physical health, our mental and emotional wellbeing carries the same importance.

Even if you’ve overcome any thoughts of seeing a therapist being a weakness, how do you know when it’s the right time to find professional support? The signs below may indicate that right now is a good time.

Emotional Signs:

You often feel overwhelmed, out-of-control, or at the end of your tether. These feelings can contribute to persistent edginess, which negatively impacts how we feel about ourselves and the world around us.

You feel detached from your emotions, leading to a numbness that makes it difficult to connect to yourself or others.  On the other hand, you may feel tearful, sad and depressed.

How Cognitive Hypnotherapy Can Help:

Cognitive hypnotherapy can help you explore and process feelings of being overwhelmed, and help you learn to accept the things you can’t change and make a commitment to changing the things you can.

Physical/Behavioural Signs:

You’ve stopped looking after yourself. Putting yourself first; eating well, sleeping well and exercising all contribute to mental health, as does learning to relax and let go.

You cope by over-indulging: on unhealthy food, too much work, too much retail therapy that you can ill afford, gambling, sex, alcohol or drugs (including prescription).  All these things can be a sign that you are trying to escape from or avoid the thing that is at the heart of your issue rather than dealing with it.

How Cognitive Hypnotherapy Can Help:

A combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Hypnotherapy can help you determine your goal and work towards it, whether that goal is to develop and commit to healthier ways of coping, or to become more accepting and loving toward yourself.

Mental Signs:

Your mind seems to be working against you. Your thoughts are more often based on memories or future negative predictions rather than on the present moment, resulting in uncomfortable emotions.

You’re unable to shake off negative thoughts about yourself or concerns about how you think others perceive you. Even when you try to talk yourself out of them or use affirmations, the thoughts just keep coming back.

How Cognitive Hypnotherapy Can Help:

Mindful meditation is very often part of dealing with high anxiety, leading you to living more in the here and now; as getting lost in the past or future can lead to feelings of depression, anxiety, or hopelessness

Other Signs:

You find yourself saying, “I’m so busy. I just wish I had time to relax,” but still you continue taking on new responsibilities. When you do have the opportunity to relax, you’re not able to enjoy it. You feel valuable based on the things you do rather than simply by being you.

You stop doing things you love or don’t have anything you love to do anymore. Whether it’s going for a walk, watching the sunrise or sunset, having a meaningful conversation, or taking part in what was your favourite activity, your life just seems to be on hold.

How Cognitive Hypnotherapy Can Help:

A therapist can help you rediscover or establish habits that bring meaning and passion into your life. They can help you re-find your self-worth and believe in yourself.
